“For each team,” states a blurb on Launch48’s website, “the goal is simple: pitch, build and launch an online business in 48 hours.”

This past weekend, the Moldovan new media and IT community was involved in an event called Launch48, in which groups of up to 15 people from various professional backgrounds met to work together to develop and launch a business in just two days.

A number of the ideas pitched during the weekend were selected for further development. Among them is 48events, which offers a mobile and online platform that helps people meet others with like interests to participate in activities together.

Though the main goal of the event was to launch projects, Oleg Ciubotaru, one of the mentors overseeing project development at the Moldova event, tweeted about the weekend’s networking potential.

Launch48 bears a striking resemblance in concept with Social Innovation Camp, a similar event which TOL has helped organize in countries in its coverage region. Both encourage the development of new and compelling businesses through collaboration and ingenuity. SIcamp projects, however, usually place greater emphasis on addressing social issues in the local community.
